What is Roof Lining?

A roof lining is a material or system installed on the roof of a building to protect it from weathering. The roof lining can be made of a variety of materials, including but not limited to felt tar paper, shingles, metal, tiles, or slate. The roof lining may also include insulation to prevent heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer.

The roof lining is an important part of the roofing system and should be inspected regularly for signs of wear or damage. If the roof lining is damaged, it can allow water to enter the building, which can lead to mold growth or other problems. It is important to repair or replace damaged roof linings as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the roof or building

Fascias

What is fascia? Fascia is often referred to as the roof line on a property. They are long straight boards that are found at the lower edge of a roof and they are fixed directly to roof trusses. Why are fascias needed? They are used as the last line of the roof so the last row of tiles has some support and doesn’t fall down. It also supports the guttering around your property. Many people think they just finish the look of the house, although they do, they also have other uses as well.

Fascias are most commonly made up of wood that has been primed and painted. This makes the material more durable. Although durable, wood will eventually rot, as with any wood structure, especially when mixed with water i.e. rain. Some companies are starting to make fascia boards out of composite materials including timber, recycled plastics and sawdust which are molded together with epoxy resin. They tend to be around double the price but they will not rot or decay over time.

Soffits

What are Soffits? They are most commonly used on the main part of a roof structure and can be found under flights of stairs and porches. Typically, they will be made out of steel, cement, fibers and wood. A Soffit has a dual purpose, firstly it completes the look of the roof much as the fascia does. As well as this, it also protects the rafters from different elements. Without these, the rafters would be exposed to rotting and decay.

Soffits come in vented varieties because they are also a part of the home’s ventilation system. This is another reason they are needed they work to allow air inside the house to circulate. This is essential because it works to stop the build-up of mold, mildew and dust inside the property. If these were to build up, it could cause serious health issues for those who live in the home.
